FULL ITINERARY

Distance: ~10 km (5–6 hours)
Habitat: Montane forest
As you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our dedicated driver will be eagerly anticipating your arrival at the airport holding a sign with your name on it, ready to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome. From there, a seamless and comfortable transfer service will whisk you away to our enchanting Springlands Hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel, you will be served a delicious meal. Later on, our experienced mountain coordinators and your Guide will give you a pre-trekking briefing, an exciting opportunity to learn about the wonders that await you in your upcoming expedition.
Enjoy the relaxing environment of Springland Hotel with a swimming pool, a beautiful garden with a bar and a restaurant.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut → Saddle Hut
Elevation: 2,514 m → 3,570 m
Distance: ~8 km (4–5 hours)
Habitat: Montane forest → Heath zone
The hike progressively ascends from the rainforest into the heath and moorland zone, where flora becomes sparse and the environment changes to open meadows. As you approach Shira Ridge, you will be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Shira Plateau, an ancient lava flow that sculpted Kilimanjaro’s western flank. After a steady ascent, you will descend somewhat to Shira 1 Camp (3,505 meters), where you will spend the night. This is the first high-altitude campground, with stunning views of Kibo Peak, Kilimanjaro’s highest point.
Day 3: Saddle Hut → Socialist Peak → Saddle Hut
- Elevation: 3,505m to 3,850m
- Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
- Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles
- Habitat: Moorland
Your summit day begins early at 2 AM with a steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m/12,467 ft). Depending on the weather, you may stop here for a spectacular sunrise. If conditions allow, you’ll continue your trek along a rugged ridge, reaching Cobra Point (4,350 m/14,271 ft) just as the sun rises. The views from Cobra Point include the crater rim cliffs, the Ash Cone, Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds, and the expansive Rift Valley. After a further hour of climbing, you’ll reach the summit of Mount Meru. The hike back to Rhino Point in the morning light is equally breathtaking. You’ll then descend to the Saddle Hut for brunch and rest before continuing to Miriakamba Hut for the night (if on a 4-day itinerary).
Day 4: Saddle Hut → Momella Gate
Elevation: 3,570 m → 1,500 m
Distance: ~13–14 km (5–7 hours)
Habitat: Heath → Montane forest
On your final day, you’ll take a different, faster route down through open grasslands and mixed forests, offering great wildlife viewing opportunities. Enjoy excellent views of the crater and the national park’s plains. You’ll reach the Momella Gate by late morning, where you’ll bid farewell to your guides and porters. A vehicle will then transfer you back to Springlands Hotel or a similar hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved celebration.
